Religious Education at St Catherine's
Religious Educationis at the heart of life at St Catherine’s Catholic Primary School where the children learn Christian values and faith through worship, prayer and the curriculum. Children are given opportunities to hear the Gospel, learn about the faith of the Church and enjoy the experience of the Christian Community of their school and parish.
Staff, pupils and parents participate in school Masses during each term. The Liturgy is given a high priority as a school activity and parents are welcome to celebrate with the children. Prayers are said daily in class and in assemblies. The Liturgical seasons are observed, with special Church feasts and holy days being celebrated, sometimes together with the parish. Our Parish Priest, Canon Richard Meyer, has weekly Prayer and Praise with the children on Wednesdays and members of the parish are invited and welcomed to celebrate in masses, liturgies, assemblies and nurture breakfasts throughout the year.
For more details on the RE life of St Catherine's follow the link below to our presentation to parents and parishioners on 22nd March 2018 when we invited them to a special Nurture Breakfast.
Whole School Liturgies
Our whole school liturgies take place on a Monday morning at 8:40am. All parents and extended family are warmly invited to join us. Each KS2 class will take turns to be in charge of the liturgy which will usually be based around the key theme of the gospel of the previous Sunday (ie listening, forgiveness, love, compassion etc). The children will be asked to actively make these values central to whatever they are doing during the coming week and they will re-visit this Christian theme during Thursday morning mini-liturgies in class.
